MAINTENANCE OF YOUR INSTRUMENT
When taking care of your instrument, one crucial aspect is the humidity level in the environment where your instrument is stored. The ideal humidity level is 50% in the surrounding air, which can be measured with a hygrometer, easily obtainable in stores.
My instruments are made with an average humidity level of 45% in the room where they are assembled. The woods are thus stabilized with a certain ambient humidity and have a specific volume.
Prolonged exposure to a level significantly below this will lead to a decrease in volume, resulting in a pulled fingerboard, a sunken top, and risks of cracks, etc.
Conversely, exposure to a level significantly above 65% can also cause damage, such as excessive swelling of the woods, increased arching of the top, which could, in extreme cases, result in the bridge being ripped off, and back-bowing of the neck, etc.
A piece of wood can be stored and dried for 100 years but will absorb ambient moisture like a sponge.
That’s why, even though I store and dry my woods for many years, one must pay attention to this critical humidity level.
To ensure that your instrument does not suffer, I strongly recommend equipping yourself with a humidifier or dehumidifier for instruments. Various models are available, and here are some links to help you choose.
Guitar Humidifiers & Hygrometers
Contrary to what one might think, winter is more dangerous than summer.
When it freezes, the air is very dry, and with heating, it is easy to have only 20-25% humidity in your apartment.
To avoid:
#Leaving your instrument in the sun, winter or summer.
#In a car in the sun.
#Be very cautious with underfloor heating.
#Next to any heat sources.
#In an excessively humid environment.
#In an excessively dry environment.
In conclusion, if you follow these few tips, your instrument will hardly be affected, allowing you to keep it in excellent condition for many years.
WARRANTY
A limited 1-year warranty is provided with each guitar I manufacture. It is linked to the original owner and is only valid as long as I am active as a luthier. It covers materials and manufacturing defects, excluding shipping costs to my workshop. It does not cover normal wear, mishandling, or damage due to storage in inappropriate conditions. I disclaim all responsibility for shipments via courier; in case of issues, the only contact is the transportation company’s insurance.
